In the heart of Izumo Hirata, a formerly thriving market town and cotton distribution hub, the Momen Kaido, or “Cotton Road,” was once alive with the bustle of people and the sight of cargo-laden sailing ships navigating the Funagawa River that runs alongside it.
Even today, long-established businesses, including sake and soy sauce breweries, remain, with masters of their craft continuing to uphold age-old techniques amidst this charming townscape.
We invite you to become part of the Momen Kaido’s unfolding story, past and present, through a stay in a historic folk house or a registered tangible cultural property that have watched over this town for generations.

The Momen Kaido carries historic charm into the present day.
